Lexington Kentucky has a rich and fascinating history. Lexington was founded within the state of Virginia, in the month of June 1775, 17 years before Kentucky becoming a state. A leader of a group of frontiersmen, known as William McConnell, stopped at a campsite that has since been called McConnell Springs. It is situated on the middle fork of Elkhorn Creek. The name Lexington was selected after Lexington Massachusetts because the group was very inspired by the 19th of April, 1775 colonists' victory during the battle of Concord and Lexington. Initially a blockhouse was built and cabins and houses immediately followed.
