 Seats for Forklifts Buffalo - Buffalo is the 2nd most populous city within New York State after the City of New York. It is located on the eastern coast of Lake Erie within the Western New York area at the head of the Niagara River and across from Fort Erie, Ontario. Buffalo forms the seat of Erie County. The area emerged as a small trading community around the year 1789 near the eponymous Buffalo Creek. After the opening of the Erie Canal during the year 1825, Buffalo quickly grew with the city as its western terminus. The city of Buffalo became the 8th largest in the nation by 1900 and grew to become a major railroad center. Buffalo also became known as the largest grain-milling center within the country.
The city of Buffalo saw a reversal of fortunes as the 20th Century evolved. As the St. Lawrence Seaway opened, it in effect re-routed shipping within the Great Lakes. Various steel mills and various heavy industry were moved to places such as China. In the 1970s, with the start of Amtrak, Buffalo Central Terminal was abandoned and trains were re-routed to Exchange Street Station and nearby Depew, New York.
The economy within the area is based on a mixture of light manufacturing, service oriented companies and high technology. There is even various life science industry and research. Though manufacturing has declined over recent decades, it still plays an important part in the economy. Finances, health services and education have grown to become more popular in the current economy. As well, the region's "Byte Belt," includes approximately 700 high-tech companies which provide numerous job opportunities.

The city of Buffalo has emerged as a center for bioinformatics and human genome research. Some of this research is being done at the University of Buffalo and the Rosewell Park Cancer Institute. Among the largest family-owned food manufacturers in the globe, Rich Products is likewise located within Buffalo. New Era Cap Company and Labatt Brewing likewise call Buffalo home for their headquarters. Ford also has a plant here.
